derb and terpys live resin  This came up in the LS the other day so I thought I would post a link to a related article. Not saying that this is the bible on this subject, but I think its the prevailing view of sometimes not well defined terms.

FWIW I just picked up a Harvest Right Pharmaceutical Freeze Dryer for that step of the Live Rosin process (drying the Bubble Hash). As we all know, recent legalization in Canada so now growing at home to ensure no pesticides and looking to make Live Rosin out of the smaller buds, and trim. Have a New Vape utility press already. Will take me a while to get there but when I have enough material and have everything working I will report back.

Yeah, it kind of changes the choices when deciding what goes into the trim pile (more of the smaller buds) since you want the Rosin to come out good as well. I am also looking to try and manage the maturity levels of the trich’s that end up in the Live Rosin. Normally the smaller buds lower on the plant have less matured trich’s than the top ones so if you use all smaller buds you will end up with Rosin that leans more towards the cerebral side and the bigger nugs you save as buds would likely be more stoney/body high. Another good reason to include say some more medium buds and all the trim from the big buds that would have more amber trich’s. Lots to think about, very interesting journey.

Probably one of the most interesting things to me is the whole growing your own process and figuring out what you prefer and how to grow that, not just which strain but what type of medium (soil, soil less, hydro, etc.), which type of lights (I am currently digging the higher end LED’s and UV), and most importantly how ripe to let the buds go before you harvest. This last factor influences the effect a whole lot…

So, being a long time teen/twenties smoker that just kind of left it be in my mid twenties and now in my mid 40’s rediscovering what was a big part of my life (frankly) but in a whole new way with the legal thing and dispensaries (Vancouver), and vapes, and presses, and wow just a lot going on compared to the mystery buds I used to get from some sketchy guy and not even knowing if it was Indica or Sativa, never mind a strain or how it was grown….

Your strategy of saving the big buds and pressing the small and mediums is around where I am at. I figure with a decent trim of the big buds I will get a good amount of amber trichomes as they appear first on the sugar and fan leaves of the top (big) buds. So those should mix with the mostly cloudy trichomes of the small and medium buds for a decent average. I still think the bubble hash, live rosin made with this mix will be more cerebral than the big buds but with the terpene effect of the freeze dried bubble hash it is likely going to be a whole new experience for me anyway. I guess the bottom line and the point of my post is wow, what a world we live in to have the chance to figure this out (over time) and be able to make those choices for what fits you best. Certainly I feel blessed.
